Automotive Material Compliance
How AUNOV documents materials, processes and quality for automotive and regulated-industry programmes — IMDS, PPAP, EN 10204 certificates, RoHS/REACH and capability data.
Material compliance is where a good drawing meets a supplier who can prove the paper trail. Buyers in automotive, medical and defense rarely ask “can you make the part?” first — they ask whether the material, the process and the inspection can be documented to a standard their own auditor accepts. This page lists exactly what AUNOV supplies, so you can check it against your programme requirements before you request a quote.
What we document, and why it matters
| Requirement | What AUNOV provides | Where buyers use it |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 9001 | Certified quality management system | Baseline supplier approval |
| RoHS | RoHS-compliant materials and finishes | Electronics, EU market entry |
| IMDS | Material data sheets entered to the IMDS system | Automotive material reporting |
| PPAP | Production Part Approval Process packages | Automotive launch approval |
| EN 10204 3.1 / 2.2 | Material certificates with every heat lot | Traceability to the melt |
| IATF 16949 | Aligned documentation where the programme requires it | Automotive quality planning |
| Cpk / SPC | Cpk ≥ 1.33 on nominated characteristics, SPC charts | Capability evidence |
| ISO 1101 / ISO 1302 | GD&T and surface-texture verification | Drawing conformance |
IMDS: material data before the part ships
IMDS (International Material Data System) is the automotive industry’s database for declaring every material and substance in a component. A part cannot enter many OEM programmes without an IMDS entry, and a wrong entry can block a launch. AUNOV prepares IMDS data from the actual material certificates and finishing specification, so the declared composition matches the heat lot that was drawn — not a generic alloy guess.
PPAP: proving the process, not just the part
PPAP is the evidence package that shows a process is capable and repeatable before volume release. Because AUNOV designs and maintains its own tooling in-house, the PPAP documents — dimensional results, material certificates, capability studies and the approved first-article sample — describe a process we actually control end to end, rather than a subcontracted black box. First-article inspection on a new tool runs on CMM and optical equipment.
You can see what that looks like in practice on a real, anonymised file: a PPAP Level 3 package for a welded 316L sensor tube — nine process steps, 45 of 45 checks accepted, and gauge R&R measured rather than assumed. The same discipline applied to a capability figure — 30 readings, published in full — is on the Cpk calculation example page.
EN 10204 certificates: traceable to the melt
Every heat lot of stainless steel, low-carbon steel, aluminium and brass is supplied with an EN 10204 type 3.1 or 2.2 certificate, traceable to the mill. That certificate is what lets your incoming inspection and your customer’s auditor confirm the alloy actually delivered matches the alloy specified — the difference between “we use 304” and “here is the 304 heat lot for your order.”
RoHS and REACH: restricted substances
RoHS restricts lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and certain flame retardants; REACH governs the broader list of substances of very high concern. AUNOV keeps material and finish choices RoHS-compliant and reviews plating and heat-treatment routes against REACH where a programme requires a declaration. For automotive programmes, the same data feeds the IMDS entry so the two records stay consistent.
What is certified, and what is aligned
Transparency note. AUNOV holds ISO 9001 certification and is RoHS compliant. IATF 16949 is provided as aligned documentation for automotive programmes — we do not present it as a standalone certificate unless the scope is confirmed for your programme. We would rather tell you exactly what is certified and what is aligned than let a vague claim fail your audit later.
If your programme needs a specific certificate, PPAP level or IMDS submission format, send the requirement with the drawing and we will confirm what we can document before quoting — no surprises at launch.
Frequently asked questions
Is AUNOV ISO 9001 certified?
Direct answer: Yes. AUNOV operates an ISO 9001-certified quality management system covering design, tooling, forming, inspection and dispatch, and is RoHS compliant. Certificate details can be supplied with a quote for your supplier-approval file.
Do you provide IMDS entries for automotive parts?
Direct answer: Yes. For automotive programmes AUNOV prepares IMDS material data from the actual material certificates and finishing specification, so the declared substances match the heat lot that was produced. IMDS is normally submitted alongside PPAP for the launch.
What PPAP level can AUNOV support?
Direct answer: AUNOV assembles PPAP documentation to the level an automotive programme requires, including dimensional results, material and performance data, capability studies and the approved first-article sample. The exact submission level is agreed with your quality team at the RFQ stage.
Which material certificate types do you supply?
Direct answer: EN 10204 type 3.1 or 2.2 certificates are supplied with each heat lot of stainless steel, low-carbon steel, aluminium and brass, traceable to the mill. Material certificates accompany the shipment so incoming inspection can verify the delivered alloy against the drawing.
Is AUNOV IATF 16949 certified?
Direct answer: AUNOV holds ISO 9001 certification and runs automotive programmes to PPAP and IMDS with IATF 16949-aligned documentation and Cpk ≥ 1.33 on nominated characteristics. Where a customer requires a standalone IATF 16949 certificate, we confirm the exact scope with the programme before quoting rather than overstate it.
